Sports The famous baseball player, Babe Ruth stated, “Every strike brings me closer to a home run.” That quote means that every little step gets you ready to a big goal. In the 1930’s people didn't do anything because of the great depression. This relates to my topic because if an athlete doesn’t train they won't get better or if they do train they will get better at what they are doing just like most athletes in the 1930’s. However, there were lots of events that included sports, athletes that played sports and the 1936 Olympics. Do to people needing an outlet in the depression era sports thrived in the 1930’s.
To begin, there was lots of sports that were played in the 1930s that we still play today. For example, in the 1930s they played baseball. On a website called Retro Website, it states, “when the great depression struck, the people who played baseball feared the worst.” that quote means that the people who played sports hat trouble drawing in fans. Today this wouldn’t be a problem because there is no great depression. One other sport that had difficulties in the 1930’s is boxing. On the same website, Retro Website, it states, “Many boxers were offered lowered amounts of money causing them to not box with passion.” This means that if athletes playing boxing doesn't get paid as high of an amount they want whey won’t play with passion. That really makes a difference in the 1930s because of the great depression that caused it all. Lastly there is football. The website NFL.com states that, “ football began to develop rules serving its needs and the style of play it preformed.” That's a big example of how football changed from the 1930s and today. For example, the quote stated that in the 1930’s just formed rules in which how the sport is played. Secondly, there was a lot of athletes who played sports in the 1930’s. One of the athletes is named Joe Louis. Joe Louis was a famous boxer in the 1930’s, and he also was the Heavyweight champion and was stated to be the best Heavyweight champion of all time. The website Wikipedia states, “Considered one of the best Heavyweights of all time”. That means that he was a well known boxer who was around in the 1930’s. One other athlete that was around in the 1930’s is Dutch Clark. Dutch Clark is a famous football player that has been around in the 1930’s. Dutch Clark also known as the Flying Dutchman and the Old Master was included in the college hall of fame in the 1930’s. Dutch became the first player from Colorado to receive First-Team All-American Honors. The website Wikipedia stats that. “He Remained at Colorado College as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach. Lastly comes Jimmie Foxx, He is a famous baseball player. Jimmie Foxx goes by the nickname of “The Beast” or “Double X”. Jimmie Foxx was the second player in the MLB history to hit 500 career home runs after Babe Ruth. The website Wikipedia stated that “Jimmie Foxx was the youngest to reach 500 for sixty-eight years.
Thirdly, the Olympics is a big deal in the 1930’s, I say that because a lot of important things happened. For example, the website www.olympics.org states “ A lit torch was carried from Olympia to the sight of the games through seven different countries.” that quote is a very important part that happens because now in days the people don't carry a lit torch through seven different countries. Although, in the 1930s people watched it on the television or listen to it on the radio. The same website olympics.org states that “ The 1936 Olympics was the first to be broadcasted on television.”. That is important because the olympics was first to be broadcasted on the television. People didn't have to go all the way to the olympics games. Do to people needing an outlet during the depression era, sports thrived in the 1930’s.
