Diseases “Your kiss of affection, the germ of infection(W.H. Runcie M.D.)”. This quote when you think about it hurts. I mean in the 1930’s infections were so easily spreadable that a single kiss from a loved one could mean life or death. There were no medicine for it so you were left there with little hope. Diseases were everywhere from lethal diseases from the diseases that affect you mentally, but how could you recover or better yet the prices they had to go through for it. I mean it's the 1930’s during the great depression, money was slim. Even with the health they had in the 1930’s, there was no chance for recovery from the people that were infected by all these dangerous diseases, including diseases that affect the human mind. To begin, people have suffered many deaths due to easily known lethal diseases. In the 1930’s diseases were common and people back then had no clue how to fix it, or they just don't know anything else about it. They didn't own any vaccines for them and became a common occurrence for it. Of course there's the unknown ones, but then there's the common ones, the ones that are not only contagious, but are lethal. For example “the Spanish flu that killed 3 times the amount of people that died during world war one(Deadly Disease That Killed More People than WW1)”. Or “polio, the disease that spread worldwide, and became everywhere! Or even infections that came from multiple things including people, insects,UV rays, and much more!(The 1930s Medicine And Health”) Lastly the most common disease “malaria. This diseases is spread person by person through mosquito. This diseases can kill and won't easily be treatable(The 10 deadliest epidemics in history)”. Because of how many mosquitoes there were, you wouldn't get stung by one, but by hundreds and possibly thousands, leading you to die there alone. As you can clearly tell there were many lethal diseases and common diseases that you could easily catch in the 1930’s. To continue recovery from a case of a mental disease, then that will be a moment in there patient life they will never forget. Now mental illness is a simple illness that is not physical, but mental. Its like they don't have the sustain strength for the mental part only the physical. People can go crazy and insane because of it. Mental illness is very serious and without the proper treatment you might be the boo radley of your town. However the treatment procedure isn’t very easy. The first part of the procedure is the removal of your vicinity, basically “your moved from your own house and into an asylum(Fredrick, Chad, prezi,)” Once there you will be greeted to your place and they will start. They have numerous tricks and types of ways for you to heal. A few of them being shock therapy, brain surgery, and what caught to my attention boiling or freezing baths. “ These bath’s are made so people can heal there subconsciousness and depending on the disease you were given very hot or very cold bath’s. You were there numerous hours every day which kinda sounds like torture to me, but that's how the 1930’s were.(Fredrick, Chad, prezi,)” Honestly it just gets worse “ you were sometimes left there untreated for hours and nobody will help you heal.(Fredrick, Chad, prezi,)” Your there for quite some time, this isn't like a one day heal, your there for hours. People with mental illnesses had a rough time to go through, but what about what doctors and nurses and scientists who try to make these medicines and stuff go through? Next in the late 1930’s Health/technology back then was painful to recover from. The health they had back then is not like today. They didn't have vaccines, bandages, rubbing alcohol to clean bacteria, and more. They didn't know what they had and definitely no way to stop it. “Scientists couldn’t look into it, because of the great depression, the event that crashed all stock markets (Lachman, John)”. So because of that people couldn't invest any money for research and leading them to the only knowledge they had. So diseases were really easy to catch. Not only that, but medicine which people needed couldn’t get there hands on any. Not to mention “ they made it so false advertising for medicine was illegal (Achievements in Public Health)”. So with all these struggles in health it was already difficult, but it just gets worse out of country. For example in “France they have to wear face masks to protect themselves from deadly toxins in the air (The 1930s Medicine and Health)”. So not only did America get so many diseases, but many other countries did world wide.So that's what health was like in the 1930’s not only in America, but in other countries too. In conclusion, the health recovery they had to go through was a painful process especially with such mental and physical diseases. Not to mention the disadvantages they had as well.In the 1930’s health back then was hard and unpredictable. Even with all the mental and physical diseases spreading around the world that time, including other countries. To conclude 1930’s was a hard and tough era, but without it we would have never seen and fixed all the problems we have today.
